Clay courts.

there are many types of clay tennis courts, but the one I am going to talk about is the Roland Garos kind of clay. They are not actually made of clay, it would be impossible to play in, only if there was a tiny bit of humidity, or it would take too long to recover after a rainy day. This floor is made of a solid permanent base with a layer of crushed brick. This is what makes the ball bounce different.

The effect of clay on the ball.

If you hit a ball with top spin in a clay court it would react differently than when you hit it in any other court Why? Because of the crushed brick the ball will dip into the floor and the bounce will be higher and sharper on the clay court than it would on a hard floor.
Clay courts are slower than any other court so there will be longer rallies since it is really difficult to hit a winner shot. This is the main reason why Nadal is better than anyone else in clay, because he is very strong and he can last long rallies with out getting tired.

In what aspects is clay better than other courts.

More training time since longer rallies are played.

Improved physical and metal strength and endurance.

Learn patience.

Softer ground means that there is less stress

Does the type of court matter?

Yes, it is very important to know what court you are best at, what kind of player are you?

Are you fast and strong, you can last for a long time and you have a very strong arm and put a lot of spin? then your kind of court is clay, just like Rafa Nadal.

If on the other hand you are very technical and  have a high level of positioning and technique then you will play much better in hard floor just like Novak Djokovic.

if you are kind of in the middle of them two because you are fast and you have a very good technique and like doing classy and fancy backspin shots then, your court is grass like Roger Federer.

Drop down in the comment what kind of player you are.

Introduction to my self and my blogs.

My name is Fernando Moreno and I am very passionate about tennis. The main point of this blog is to teach you how to use geography to make you a better tennis player. Have you ever thought about why Nadal is better on clay than grass? well I am here to tell you why.
